Best Sandals with Arch Support

Best Sandals with Arch Support

Health / Jaclyn Mastropasqua

Arch conditions like plantar fasciitis can be painful and debilitating, but the right pair of sandals may provide relief. Sandals with arch support work to distribute your weight evenly across your feet, to help ease pressure on the arches. They also often have features like contoured footbeds and cushioned midsoles to further reduce pain. When buying sandals for arch support, look for a style with good arch coverage and adjustability for the best fit. Often, a heel cup or strap can help keep your foot in place and prevent slippage.

Said Atway, DPM, a podiatrist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, explains that sandals without arch support can eventually cause pain due to the strain they put on foot ligaments. However, sandals that do boast arch support will provide the opposite result (less strain) as they conform to the feet to support proper function, he adds.

We researched dozens of sandals with arch support and consulted with podiatrists to find the best options with contoured footbeds, cushioned midsoles, heel cups, and secure straps for optimal fit. We also tested 32 sandals to see how they held up on our daily strolls. Our top picks can help with plantar fasciitis, overpronation, flat feet, and high arches—and they're comfortable enough to wear all day long. These are the best sandals with arch support.

Skechers

Why We Like It: The Skechers Go Walk Arch Fit Affinity features memory foam, which contours to your feet and provides cushioning, while the midsole has an extra layer of shock-absorbing material.

It’s Worth Noting: These sandals may not be a great fit for those with narrow feet.

Skechers Go Walk Arch Fit Affinity sandals provide excellent arch support and cushioning for all-day comfort. The memory foam contours to your feet, while the shock-absorbing midsole protects against impact. When we tried them during testing, we were impressed by how our feet never slid around—a result of the three adjustable straps.

Despite the elevated heel from the arch, we always felt supported walking up and down stairs, on uneven sidewalks, and during long strolls. We also noted that they felt super lightweight and the extra cushioning in the soles left our joints feeling protected from hard surfaces like concrete.

While we know not everyone will think these are the cutest sandals available (our editor who tried them out didn't think so either), we think the level of comfort these shoes bring to the table and their affordable price point more than make up for their average design. And if Affinity isn't your style, Skechers has several other Go Walk Arch Fit sandals and plenty of color options to suit your taste. Plus, they're machine washable, making them easy to keep clean.

Product Details:

  • Women's sizes: 6 to 11
  • Available Widths: Medium, wide
  • Upper Material: Geo-woven mesh
  • Insole Material: Arch Fit contoured footbed

Why We Like It: Even the medium width felt a bit narrow so they're truly geared towards those with slim feet.

It’s Worth Noting: They run small so size up!

If you're someone with narrow feet who's looking for a sturdy and comfortable yet cute pair of sandals then we highly recommend the Munro Corine Sandals. We realized pretty quickly during testing that these shoes are made for those with narrow feet as even the wider styles still felt narrow. And though they felt firm while we walked in them, that didn't detract from their level of comfort.

Our feet felt supported all day long in these shoes. In fact, our editor said she felt energized in them and was able to walk for longer distances pain-free than she can in her usual Birkenstocks. Even after 8 straight hours of wearing these sandals, we didn't experience any blistering or chafing.

It's worth noting that we recommend going up a full size in this shoe. We were pretty surprised at how far off from standard sizing these sandals felt.

Product Details:

  • Women's sizes: 5 to 12
  • Available Widths: Super slim, narrow, medium, wide, extra wide
  • Upper Material: Suede
  • Insole Material: Cork footbed
  • Outsole Material: Natural latex rubber

Why We Like It: They're available in both medium and wide widths, and they support your arches without putting too much pressure on them.

It’s Worth Noting: One of our editors experienced a little bit of chaffing on the pinky toe.

The Baretraps Danny Sandals are high-quality, comfortable shoes with solid arch support. We particularly liked that they supported our arches without putting too much pressure on them or forcing them into an uncomfortably raised position.

While the insole is a very firm rubber, it didn't bother us at all. In fact, we think it made them feel sturdier and higher quality—like they'll last for years. However, the rubber isn't light so be prepared for a slightly heavier shoe than other sandals on this list. We also appreciated how the straps ensured our feet stayed put, reducing strain.

We had two editors test these sandals and while one was incredibly impressed with the lack of blistering and chaffing she experienced, the other noted her pinky toe came out a bit raw after testing. For that reason, these shoes may be great for people with wide feet, but those with extra wide feet may want to try another option on this list.

Product Details:

  • Women's sizes: 5.5 to 11
  • Available Widths: Medium, wide

Vionic Reyna Flatform Sandal

Vionic

Why We Like It: They have a high arch and a stylish platform design.

It’s Worth Noting: The straps may loosen over time.

Despite their name, the Vionic Reyna Flatform Sandals are anything but flat in the insole, and instead offer some serious arch support. For those with high arches, these platforms have a raised inner arch to keep your feet supported throughout the day. And, when we tested, we particularly loved the plump leather straps that felt soft and supple on our ankles and feet.

It's worth noting that the platform of these sandals is inflexible and won't bend with your foot as you walk, which may feel strange if you're not used to wearing platforms. However, because the arch support design is so significant, the lack of flexibility won't strain your arches. Also, we found that the strap stretched a little during testing. However, we simply chose a tighter notch on the strap, and that resolved the issue immediately.

How We Selected and Tested

We reviewed dozens of options before narrowing it down to the best arch support sandals on the market. We looked for features like adjustability, cushioning, and durability to find sandals that would provide all-day comfort without sacrificing style. Supportive features like heel cups and arch support were also taken into consideration. We also looked for sandals that would be versatile enough to wear with a variety of looks, from shorts to dresses. To top it off, we tested almost three dozen sandals by walking in them and taking note of things like how comfortable our feet were, if we developed blisters or chafing, if our feet got sweaty, and whether or not we felt excess pressure on our heels, arches, toes, and ankles.

We consulted with podiatrists to get their professional recommendations on what to look for in a supportive sandal. Podiatrists we spoke to included:

  • Zahava Robinson, DPM, and owner of Bondi Podiatry
  • Said Atway, DPM, Said Atway, DPM, a podiatrist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center
  • Nelya Lobkova, DPM, and founder of Step Up Footcare in TriBeCa, NYC.

With these factors in mind, we narrowed down our selection to the 17 best arch support sandals on the market.

What to Know About Sandals with Arch Support

Support

"Arch support is critically important in sandals, especially for people with pain, dysfunction, and instability, '' says Zahava Robinson, DPM, and owner of Bondi Podiatry. "Although some people can wear sandals without arch support—and this may be beneficial as with the barefoot movement—it's more important to consider arch support."

Sandals with arch support typically feature a raised arch or contoured footbed. This helps distribute your weight evenly and prevents foot fatigue. If you have high arches, look for sandals with extra arch support. And if you have flat feet, consider a sandal with a built-in orthotic.

A heel cup may also be helpful, as it creates a pocket for your heel which promotes optimal foot health. It also reduces heel pain and agonizing blisters. Combining these features with a cushioned footbed creates a sandal that’s comfortable for all-day wear.

"When we wear sandals with a decent footbed, cushioned or platform outsole, and adjustable and flexible straps, we nurture the muscles and bones that we use in the walking cycle. This eliminates overuse injuries, such as metatarsalgia (pain in the ball of the foot) and plantar fasciitis (heel pain)," explains Nelya Lobkova, DPM, board-certified podiatrist and founder of Step Up Footcare in TriBeCa, NYC.

"These are the two of the most common conditions associated with wearing uncomfortable and ill-fitted sandals," she adds. Sandals with adequate arch support help disperse your weight to avoid painful conditions from developing.

Materials

Most sandals have an upper made of breathable materials like fabric or leather. The footbed may consist of foam, cork, or an orthotic material. And the outsole should be made of durable, slip-resistant material—like rubber.

"There is no best material for arch support. It depends on the degree of support required and the level of comfort," explains Robinson. "The firmer the material, the more support. However, this doesn't always translate to comfort."

Robinson notes that some of the most well-known and loved arch support sandals use versatile materials that offer a high level of support and comfort. "Some wonderful materials available for arch support include cork seen in Naot and Birkenstock sandals, polypropylene used in orthotics, and leather with padding for breathability."

Lobkova highlights the importance of finding sandals with a firm footbed. "When looking for a sandal with arch support, put your hand inside the insole. There should be a firm bump or elevation in the arch area (the midsection of the sandal)," she explains. "I recommend looking for an insole made from firm materials, such as PVC or cork."

Shoe Styles

The style of sandals you choose likely depends on personal preference. But there are a few that offer more support than others. Platform sandals and slide sandals typically have a thicker sole that helps distribute your weight evenly. And adjustable straps can provide a customized fit that helps prevent foot pain.

"For heel-lovers, look for pumps with a platform under the ball of the foot. The platform acts as a shock absorber to decrease the stress on the ball of the foot, which can cause pain and soreness," explains Lobkova.

"Look for a strap around the ankle or add a strap to your current summer sandals. The strap provides extra stability in the ankle and awareness that the ankle is supported, allowing you to wear heels for longer and minimize the chance of getting an ankle sprain."

Lobkova also recommends avoiding sandals with thin soles and non-adjustable straps, as neither provides adequate support for the foot. Straps that can't be adjusted are more likely to rub and cause blisters. And sandals with thin soles offer little support which leads to foot pain.

"There are plenty of options for summer shoe gear that the shoe industry has recognized as necessary to provide support and function without compromising style," adds Atway. “Shoes should be selected for the activity that is being performed, any areas of pain, and functionality."

Your Questions, Answered

Do podiatrists recommend Birkenstocks?

Birkenstocks have many characteristics that podiatrists look for in a sandal, including a deep heel cup, adjustable strap, and firm footbed. The cork material used in Birkenstocks is also a plus, as it's both comfortable and supportive. However, arch support may look different for each person, so it's essential to consult with a podiatrist or another medical professional to find the best sandal for your foot type.

What sandal has the most arch support?

No one sandal has the most arch support. The amount of support you need depends on your foot type and any pain you might be experiencing. Some people prefer a firmer material for arch support, while others find more comfort in a softer material. It's important to consult with a podiatrist or another medical professional to find the best sandal for your needs.

What types of sandals should people who need arch support avoid?

Wearing proper shoes is important for people with foot pain, and several sandal styles can provide the support you need. According to Robinson, you should avoid wearing "flat sandals with a thin sole and minimal straps, particularly if it's flimsy and made of poor thin material.” Lobkova recommends avoiding sandals with thin soles and a single or non-adjustable strap.

How much can I expect to pay for sandals with arch support?

The prices of sandals with arch support vary depending on the brand and quality of materials used. The sandals on our list range in price from $40 to $140, with our top pick Skechers Go Walk Arch Fit Affinity costing $70.

These Orthotic Insoles Allowed Me to Run Pain-Free for the First Time in Years https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-easyfeet-orthotic-arch-support-insoles-amazon/ https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-easyfeet-orthotic-arch-support-insoles-amazon/#respond Fri, 15 Oct 2021 00:00:00 +0000 https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-easyfeet-orthotic-arch-support-insoles-amazon/ Most runners have been there: You've just started out or are well on your way to reaching your goals when, seemingly out of nowhere, you start to experience knee pain. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, the aptly named 'runner's knee' can spring up at any age and is most common in runners (and those who sit for long periods, such as drivers and office workers). Ironically enough, this common injury is not always caused by a problem in the knees, but rather weakness in the ankles, hips, or feet.

My mom (a marathoner for thirty years) and I (a runner only because CorePower was closed) were diagnosed with runner's knee around the same time. After a few PT sessions, our physical therapist outlined our respective issues. A previous ankle sprain had thrown my mom's leg out of alignment, causing her knee to ache. To my surprise, an x-ray confirmed I'd developed plantar fasciitis. The long-ignored pain in my foot forced me to run with an awkward gait, putting extra pressure on my knee joint. To help us get back on track (literally), our physio recommended we both try these Easyfeet Orthotic Shoe Insoles ($30, was $40, amazon.com).

Designed to slip seamlessly into any pair of sneakers, these orthopedic inserts support arches with a cushioning layer of memory foam. Deep heel cradles align the feet and ankles, while reinforcement gel surrounding the forefoot absorbs shock with every step. Even on a short walk around the block, I felt an instant change in the impact distribution across my legs, almost like a weight was lifted off my knees and feet.

After trimming them down a bit to fit inside my sneakers, I started wearing the insoles on daily walks and was shocked by how much distance I could cover without feeling discomfort. Other shoe inserts I'd tried had helped me manage the aching in my feet and knees, but these completely took it away. After two pain-free weeks, my PT suggested a short run. Armed with my long-neglected workout clothes and a killer playlist, I jogged for about a mile and was elated by how normal the movement felt, almost as if I'd never been injured at all. My mom bounced back even faster and started training with her running group again after only one week of using the insoles.

While strength training (and Bosu Ball bonding time with my mom) played a role in helping me back into my fitness routine, I can confidently say that these inserts are the reason I'm running today––and I'm not alone. Nearly 16,000 Amazon customers say they depend on these "life-changing" inserts to overcome foot pain, overpronation, tendonitis, and more. "I have bone spurs and scar tissue from playing soccer through college," wrote one customer. "These insoles gave me my first pain free workday the first time I wore them."

"I'm an avid runner and also do plyometrics and HIIT exercises that are hard on my feet and knees," explained another shopper. "These provide support, relief, and added cushion for my feet. I'm glad I chose these and not a more expensive option."

Available in a variety of men's and women's sizes, Easyfeet insoles come in four distinct designs, including Red ($30; amazon.com) for pain relief, Blue ($28; amazon.com) for lighter arch support, and Orange ($30; amazon.com) for injury prevention. After overcoming my injury, I switched my red pair out for the orange as I train for my first half marathon.

These "game-changing" insoles are currently $10 off, so don't hesitate to add a pair (or three) to your Amazon cart to start hiking, running, or walking pain-free.

Peloton Recalls Treadmills After Child's Death and Multiple Injuries-Here's What to Know https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-peloton-treadmill-recall-child-death-injuries/ https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-peloton-treadmill-recall-child-death-injuries/#respond Wed, 05 May 2021 00:00:00 +0000 https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-peloton-treadmill-recall-child-death-injuries/ If you have one of these treadmills at home, take note: On Wednesday, Peloton announced that it would pull its Tread and Tread+ models from the market due to the risk of injury.

The voluntary recalls are part a deal struck with the US Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) in the wake of one child's death and more than 70 Tread+ treadmill-related incidents.

Peloton-Treadmill-Recall Peloton-Treadmill-Recall

CPSC approved the agreement Wednesday morning, which commits the company to stop selling and distributing its treadmills and refund people who want to return their units.

The recall announcement represents a complete turnabout for the popular exercise equipment company, whose CEO, John Foley, initially balked at the CPSC's request for a recall.

RELATED: 4 Things You Should Know About Treadmill Safety

"I want to be clear. Peloton made a mistake in our initial response," Foley said in a prepared statement. Peloton should have "engaged more productively" with the CPSC from the outset, he added. "For that, I apologize."

Consumers are being advised to stop using the treadmills. Peloton has agreed to refund the full purchase price to consumers.

Sales and distribution of the Tread+, which retailed for just under $4,300, have ceased, per the announcement. The recall also applies to Peloton's Tread model, a small, cheaper version offered in a limited release from November 2020 to March 2021 and priced at roughly $2,500, per Business Insider.

In April, CPSC warned consumers about the treadmill's hazards after multiple incidents involving small children and pets, including the death of a six-year-old child, per the New York Times. That incident prompted the commission to investigate all known injuries or deaths tied to the equipment.

RELATED: Here's Why People Die Each Year in Gyms (and How to Prevent It From Happening to You)

In all, CPSC cites 72 reports of children, adults, pets, and objects being entrapped, pinned, or pulled under the rear roller of the product. That includes 29 injuries to kids who suffered second- and third-degree abrasions, broken bones, and lacerations, among other injuries.

One incident occurred when a parent was running on the treadmill, the CPSC noted in its April warning. For that reason, the commission expressed doubt at the time that simply locking the device would sufficiently protect children from harm. And considering reports of pets and objects being sucked beneath the Tread+, the commission also raised the possibility that users could lose their balance and suffer injury, too.

Acting CPSC Chairman Robert S. Adler said in a statement that the pact with Peloton culminates weeks of negotiation. "As an exercise enthusiast, I know how important treadmills can be to the people who use them. But, I also know that those who use exercise equipment want to be sure that the only pain they might feel at the end of a workout is a sore muscle from their exertion, not a serious injury from a defective product."

For a refund, consumers may contact Peloton weekdays at 844-410-0141 or weekends online at www.onepeloton.com.

Nike Created a Hands-Free Sneaker And It Is Being Calling a Win for People With Disabilities https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-nikes-new-hands-free-sneaker-disability-design/ https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-nikes-new-hands-free-sneaker-disability-design/#respond Tue, 02 Feb 2021 00:00:00 +0000 https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-nikes-new-hands-free-sneaker-disability-design/ Nike introduced its first-ever hands-free sneaker, the Nike GO FlyEase, on February 1, and its origin can be traced back nearly a decade to when a boy with cerebral palsy wrote a letter to the company.

Matthew Walzer, now 25, was born two months premature, weighing only two pounds, 14 ounces. His lungs were not fully developed, and so his brain did not receive enough oxygen. This lack of oxygen led to brain injury that resulted in cerebral palsy, a group of disorders that affect a person's movement, balance, and posture, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Fast-forward 16 years to 2012: Walzer was entering his junior year of high school. Like many other kids his age, he was excited about applying to college. But one thing was on his mind, and he decided to write a letter to Nike about it.

RELATED:Everything You Need to Know About Running for Beginners

"Out of all the challenges I have overcome in my life, there is one that I am still trying to master, tying my shoes," wrote Walzer. "Cerebral palsy stiffens the muscles in the body. As a result I have flexibility in only one of my hands which makes it impossible for me to tie my shoes. My dream is to go to the college of my choice without having to worry about someone coming to tie my shoes every day."

Walzer continued that he believed everyone—"no matter what their physical, economic, or social circumstances may be"—deserves not only to call themselves an athlete, but to experience freedom and independence. "If Nike would design and produce basketball and running shoes with moderate support and some kind of closure system that could be used by everyone, Nike could create a shoe line that attracts people that face the same physical challenges I did and still do, yet it could still be possible for anyone to wear them," he wrote.

Nike was moved to act. The same year, the company designed a shoe that used a zipper rather than laces and created the prototype for Walzer to test. Three years later, Nike introduced the FlyEase line, which the company describes as "an easy-entry footwear system designed… to help athletes of all abilities and ages perform better."

RELATED: Why Joe Biden's Promise to Support the Disability Community Is So Important to People Like Me

Now, about nine years after Walzer's letter, Nike has introduced its newest shoe to the line—one that doesn't require any hands at all. The Nike GO FlyEase's kickstand heel, hinged design, and pop-and-snap technology allow wearers to use only their feet when putting on and taking off the sneaker.

Many people have voiced their appreciation of the inclusive design on social media. "Disability design for the win!," one user tweeted.

"Because of my disability I don't have all my fine motor skills which means I can't my tie shoes. I usually would have to get somebody else at the gym to tie my shoes pre-pandemic," another tweeted. "I'm looking forward to this. The price point is a little high for some people but I'm OK with it."

As social media users have pointed out, the design can help not only people like Walzer who have chronic disabilities, but also those who may have a problem bending down and/or using their hands for their shoes in the short term, such as people who are pregnant or people recovering from surgery. In a press release, Nike also noted how the shoe "translates to serving the broadest range of active lifestyles possible."

"I would have like these shoes during the third trimester of my pregnancy with twins, when I could not bend and had trouble putting my shoes on," another user tweeted. "Would probably still like it."

Nike-Creates-Hands-Free-Shoe Nike-Creates-Hands-Free-Shoe

"The original concept around this shoe was to support our adaptive athletes better, and we just quickly throughout the process found that this shoe was really universal," explained Nike GO FlyEase designer Haley Toelle in a promo video. "Everyone around the table would be like, 'Oh, I need this shoe. I have kids, and this would save my life in the morning.' So I see that trickle-down effect of you always design for the most extreme case, that's the hardest thing to do, and then it open it up to everybody."

Walzer himself is excited about the new design, tweeting, "#DisabledLivesMatter The Flyease is for people of all abilities. Remarkable that one letter almost nine years ago continues to bring about so much change. #NikeLetter"

According to the Nike press release, the sneakers will initially be available to select Nike Members via invite. The shoe is expected to become available to the wider public later this year and, according to Yahoo Finance, will cost $120.

This Is the Only Piece of Fitness Equipment You Need for a Full-Body Workout at Home https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-bowflex-selecttech-barbell-review/ https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-bowflex-selecttech-barbell-review/#respond Wed, 30 Dec 2020 00:00:00 +0000 https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-bowflex-selecttech-barbell-review/ When the global pandemic cooped us up last spring, we weren’t left with many fitness options. Stripped of our gyms, cycling and HIIT classes, yoga and boxing studios, sports, and—for a while there—most outdoor activities, we did what we could at home. But you can only do so many push-ups and bodyweight exercises in your living room before you're itching for proper tools, like dumbbells and resistance bands. And, like so many things in quarantine, the demand for home workout equipment soared—with much of it selling out online.

Bowflex Bowflex : maximize the versatility to space-efficiency ratio. No matter where in your home you intend to exercise, it just doesn’t pay to have a big piece of equipment that does one thing. Enter: Bowflex, a brand that actually does versatile equipment quite well. I’ve been using the Bowflex SelectTech adjustable dumbbells ($349; bowflex.com) for a few years and can’t stress enough how great it is to have the equivalent of a full dumbbell set tucked away in one corner.

RELATED: 7 Pieces of Home Gym Equipment to Boost Your Socially Distant Workouts

With that said, I was pretty eager to test the brand's new adjustable barbell and curl bar system. The Bowflex SelectTech 2080 Barbell with Curl Bar ($549; bowflex.com) features two bars—one straight and one an EZ curl—so the workout options are endless. (ICYDK, an EZ curl bar has zig zags in the bar to make it easier on your wrists; instead of having the wrist forced flat, it's able to be positioned at a slant, which is more comfortable when lifting.) You could very conceivably perform a full-body workout standing in a few square feet of your living room. The straight bar is good for a variety of presses, rows, squats and posterior chain exercises, while the curl bar fires up your arms. Changing weights is as simple as turning a dial on each side, moving the weight up in 10-pound increments.

This could totally be the only piece of workout equipment in your house. That is, as long as you don’t need to go very heavy. While a great option for most people, this isn’t exactly for the powerlifters out there. My biggest complaint about the dumbbells has always been the fact that they aren’t expandable—if you get to a point where 52.5 pounds isn’t cutting it, you have no choice but to seek out other options (or you could just buy the heavier set from the start). Bowflex rectified that somewhat with its barbell, which ranges from 20-80 pounds, but is expandable to 120 pounds—which should certainly cover most people for most exercises.

RELATED: This 30-Day Arms Challenge Will Transform Your Upper Body In Just 4 Weeks

As far as space efficiency goes, it’s really not bad, but could be better. On the stand, which will store both bars, it measures about 60 inches wide and comes off the wall about 19 inches. The sturdy plastic base, which holds the unused plates, is a little on the bulky side but I can’t see it being improved by much. In the grand scheme, I don’t think it’s more space efficient than a typical curl bar and some plates, which could be stored under a bed or in a closet when not being used, but there’s a big convenience factor to the weight selection. Also, considering you can usually get a curl bar and some weights for about $100 (prices are unusually high at the moment due to continued demand), what you’re paying for is the quality and that convenience.

In use, though, the SelectTech curl bar turned out better than expected. I don’t do a lot of curls, but loved it for skull crushers. The cambers (read: the zig zags in the shape of the curl bar) on the bar are very ergonomic, making it comfortable to hold in either direction, whether doing bicep curls or tricep extensions. And this could be a pro or a con depending on how you look at it, but unlike on an olympic curl bar, like you’d find at your usual gym, the weights don’t rotate on the ends. This means that you’ll have to exert a little more energy stopping the whole bar from turning in your hands. A little extra challenge isn’t a bad thing, and I don’t think it takes too much away from the experience.

It may be a splurge, but the Bowflex SelectTeck barbell set gives you what you need to amp up your workouts without turning your home into a Planet Fitness. Plus, it's versatile enough for a variety of workouts—from bicep curls to bent-over rows. And with most at-home workout essentials exceedingly hard to come by, this is the perfect opportunity to treat yourself right around the holidays.

Peloton Just Issued a Recall Affecting 27,000 Bikes After 16 People Reported Injuries https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-peloton-recalls-pedals/ https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-peloton-recalls-pedals/#respond Fri, 16 Oct 2020 00:00:00 +0000 https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-peloton-recalls-pedals/ Peloton is in the news again—and this time it's got nothing to do with controversial commercials. The company announced on Thursday that it is voluntarily recalling a clip-in bike pedal, following 120 reports of breakage and 16 reports of injury.

In a blog post, Peloton said five of the 16 reported injuries required medical care, such as stitches to the lower leg.

The recall—which cites that the bike pedals can break unexpectedly during use—applies to PR70P pedals fitted on bikes sold between July 2013 and May 2016. That amounts to 27,000 bikes, so this is a pretty big recall.

Peloton PR70P Clip-In Pedal Recall Peloton PR70P Clip-In Pedal Recall

If you bought a Peloton bike during that time frame and have never replaced your pedals, you can identify them by the Peloton logo and the word "PELOTON" molded into the pedal body. The PR70P pedal also has an orange Peloton symbol and white lettering spelling "PELOTON" printed on the top of the cleat binding.

However, if your bike has pedals with white lettering spelling "PELOTON" without the orange Peloton logo, they're not subject to the recall—and you can carry on cycling.

Peloton recommends that members change their Peloton bike pedals annually, and the recalled pedals are outside their one-year warranty. However, anybody affected by the recall can order free pedals via the company website, or you can order them over the phone if you prefer. (You have to install the new pedals yourself—and you'll need a 15mm wrench for the task—but Peloton has detailed instructions on their YouTube channel for how to do that.)

You can also call Peloton toll-free at 844-410-0141 9:00 am to 7:00 pm EST on weekdays and 9:00 am to 6:30 pm EST on weekends, if you have any questions about the recall, can't figure out if your pedals are covered, or need some advice on how to install your new pedals.

RELATED: 7 Stationary Bike Workouts for a Spin Routine You Can Do Anywhere

And obviously, don't use your Peloton bike until you've replaced the pedals (they're not specific about time frames, other than saying they'll get the new pedals sent out "as fast as possible").

If you really can't figure out how to install the new pedals, Peloton will be happy to send a technician to your home to do it for you, but it'll set you back $100. And in any case, home service appointments may be limited in some areas, due to COVID-19.

"There is no greater priority than the safety and well-being of Peloton Members," Peloton spokeswoman Amelise Lane said in an email to Business Insider. The company, which went public in September 2019, is currently valued at $37 billion, and has benefited hugely from the coronavirus pandemic. In May, the company reported a 66% increase in quarterly sales following state-mandated closure of gyms, per CNBC.

Amazon Shoppers Call This $9 Cooling Towel a 'Godsend' During Hot Summer Months https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-bogi-cooling-towels-amazon/ https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-bogi-cooling-towels-amazon/#respond Wed, 08 Jul 2020 00:00:00 +0000 https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-bogi-cooling-towels-amazon/ It seems like every summer is hotter than the last, and adding protective face masks into the mix only contributes even more to the heat. But if you’re dedicated to your summer workouts or to socially distancing outside, there are still ways to keep cool—even when the temperature pushes pass the 90s and hits triple digits.

On top of wearing sweat-wicking fabrics and breathable face coverings, keeping a cooling neck wrap or cooling towel close at hand is a smart idea. These towels are portable and affordable solutions that ensure you don't get too toasty. How exactly? Once the cooling technology is activated (you've got to soak it in water), the towel cools you down through evaporation—the same way your body does when you sweat.

RELATED: 8 Lightweight Face Masks for More Airflow and Less Glasses Fog This Summer

But with so many options to choose from, how do you pick the best one? Well, this past weekend, one cooling towel, in particular, increased in sales by 5,159 percent, according to Amazon’s Movers and Shakers page. Meet the Bogi Cooling Towel (from $9; amazon.com), which is made of soft, bamboo fiber and can stay chilled for up to three hours—perfect for all your activities, from park outings and beach days to walks with your dog and workouts.

The process for “activating” the towel is simple: Run it under cool water, wring it out, snap it a few times, and voilà. The water evaporates quickly—thanks to the towel’s mesh design—so when you’re ready to use it, it'll keep you cool without leaving you soaking wet.

BOGI Cooling Towel for Instant Cooling BOGI Cooling Towel for Instant Cooling  (from $9; amazon.com)

Amazon customers are huge fans, saying they use the towels for everything from cooling down after long runs and HIIT workouts to combatting annoying hot flashes. And unlike other cooling towels, shoppers swear these actually feel soft and stay that way whether they’re wet or dry.

If you have plans to be outside all day, this towel really comes in handy. In summer, you can use it to cool yourself or your kids off and get back to enjoying the time outdoors without missing a beat. “After using them at Disney World in the 95+ degree heat and high humidity, I can honestly say that they were a godsend for us and they really do work,” wrote one five-star reviewer.

Plus, the Bogi towel comes in a bottle with a carrying clip that can be conveniently attached to gym bags, backpacks, and purses, so you won’t need to schlep it around and can stay hands-free. If you know you’ll be using it throughout the day, add water to the bottle so the towel can be re-chilled with each use. And if you’d rather wear it, the towel easily fashions into a bandana, scarf, or headband with a few folds.

It's available in two sizes (medium and large) and eight different colorways, and you can purchase one for just $9 or snap up a set of two for $15—so that you have a clean one if the other is in your laundry bag. At such an affordable price point, it's no wonder this towel has become such a hot commodity among fitness buffs, parents, outdoor adventurers, and even those with medical conditions. Shop it ASAP so you stay cool this summer.

I've Tried Countless Pairs of Running Shorts, And These Are My New Favorites https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-outdoor-voices-running-shorts/ https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-outdoor-voices-running-shorts/#respond Tue, 09 Jun 2020 00:00:00 +0000 https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-outdoor-voices-running-shorts/ As supportive and flattering as your favorite pair of workout leggings may be, hot summer weather calls for breathable shorts. I love to run outside, and as soon as the temperature goes above 70 degrees Fahrenheit, the thought of pulling on a pair of form-fitting leggings for an outdoor sweat session sounds miserable to me. So in order to give my running shorts collection a refresh this season, I tried out a pair of Outdoor Voices’ best-selling workout shorts—and I was not disappointed.

The Hudson Shorts from Outdoor Voices are simple, functional, and comfortable. They’re made from quick-drying recycled polyester and have a soft knit waistband with an adjustable drawstring and a built-in brief liner. They also have a tiny secret side pocket that zips closed and is just large enough to hold a set of keys, an ID, a credit card, or spare cash.

I first took this pair out for a spin on a hot, humid day while I ran my usual route through Central Park. Unlike some other running shorts, these didn’t ride up at all during my four-mile route. Even the supportive waistband stayed put the entire time, giving me the freedom to let my mind wander instead of wondering how to adjust a rising hemline without messing with my pace. I’ve been a runner for over a decade, which means I’ve tried my fair share of workout shorts—but after that day in Central Park, this pair officially became my favorite.

Hundreds of Outdoor Voices shoppers have left rave reviews of the shorts online, and many agree that they stay put, look great, and are breathable enough for hot and sticky weather. Others enjoy lounging around the house in them.

“Finding athletic shorts that fit well and are actually flattering is next to impossible. So glad I found these,” one reviewer wrote. “I immediately ordered a second color after receiving and trying on my first pair. These will now be a go-to.”

Another said, “[I] absolutely love these shorts! I am petite but have a curvy body, and I can never find shorts that fit me right. These shorts fit just right on me and have become my new favorites.”

The shorts are available in 8 colorways, including solid colors and fun prints, but I dare you to order just one pair and see how much they improve your summer workout wardrobe.

J.Lo Shows Off Her Insane Abs—But Her Sports Bra is Actually Stealing the Show https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-jennifer-lopez-camo-print-sports-bra-leggings/ https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-jennifer-lopez-camo-print-sports-bra-leggings/#respond Mon, 18 May 2020 00:00:00 +0000 https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-jennifer-lopez-camo-print-sports-bra-leggings/ When Jennifer Lopez posts a workout selfie on Instagram, we immediately stop scrolling and pay attention. Not just because we’re inspired by her intense workouts, but also because she somehow always manages to look flawless while doing them.

RELATED: The Full-Body Workout That Keeps J.Lo in Amazing Shape

Exhibit A: Her recent Instagram post that shows off her enviable abs with the motivational caption: “If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.” The only thing more enviable then her killer abs, of course, is her workout style. Sporting an ultra-cool camo-print sports bra and matching leggings from Niyama Sol, J.Lo looks stylish, focused, and ready to crush her presumably insane workout.

Honestly, we can’t say we’re surprised that camo is J.Lo’s latest activewear print of choice. She’s never been one to shy away from head-turning looks, whether she’s sporting a white string bikini or rocking leggings with her own face on them. And even if your workout wardrobe isn’t quite as daring, the camo print look is surprisingly wearable.

Draw inspiration from other A-listers, like Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Garner, who are also trading in their normal black leggings for the fun print. Witherspoon and Garner chose to pair their leggings with neutral tops to tone down the look, but if you’re ready to go all in like J.Lo, pair yours with a matching sports bra for a striking outfit that’s sure to keep you motivated during your next sweat sesh.

To help you get J.Lo’s look (abs not included, unfortunately), we rounded up our favorite camo-print sports bras, leggings, and more activewear picks that are worth adding to your workout ensemble. Warning: These bold pieces may induce gym selfies.

This Sports Bra Is So Comfortable, I Own It in 5 Different Colors https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-girlfriend-collective-paloma-sports-bra/ https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-girlfriend-collective-paloma-sports-bra/#respond Thu, 14 May 2020 00:00:00 +0000 https://1millionbestdownloads.com/fitness-fitness-gear-girlfriend-collective-paloma-sports-bra/ I didn’t know a good sports bra could make or break a workout until my junior year of high school. A childhood of dance classes led me to daydream over the perfect leotards rather than bust-supporting activewear—until I joined my high school tennis team. It’s amazing how quickly chasing balls around the court and running line sprints forces you to reconsider your sports bra selection.

Despite my sudden revelation about good sports bras, I didn’t successfully find one for another 8 years. My primary issue was that I needed support but hated the cage-like contraptions on the market. I didn’t want the ladies lifted and strapped just beneath my chin—I wanted them compressed and out of the way during my workout. The perfect full-coverage design I imagined didn’t have complicated hook-and-loop closures, painful shoulder-digging straps, or ill-fitting cups. Essentially, I wanted a size 36C miracle.

My divine intervention occurred last November when I decided to splurge on a Girlfriend Collective Paloma Sports Bra ($38; nordstrom.com) after months of debate. I’d seen trendy influencers wearing it all over Instagram and was immediately attracted to the array of modern colorways, sleek square-neck design, and elongated crop fit.  I selected the sleek crop in black—like a true New Yorker—and hunkered down to wait for my order.

Needless to say, it was love at first wear. The moisture-wicking fabric, made from a recycled polyester and spandex blend, hugged my body without constricting any movement. Its racerback design offered enough support to stop uncomfortable boob bounce during cardio workouts, but didn’t feel like it was cutting off my circulation either. Plus, its long-line silhouette even covered enough skin to double as a crop top with high-waisted leggings (ideally in the matching shade), so I felt comfortable ditching unnecessary workout tanks.

After 6 months of bliss, it still stands up to my initial praise—and I’ve even learned of additional perks. The fast-drying fabric can handle a 45-minute cycle class followed by an hour of yoga without leaving me soaked in sweat. Not only is it sturdy enough to stay in place through a variety of moves, like jump squats and planks, but it’s also unbelievably soft. Every wash and dry leaves it feeling smoother than the last. (Small confession: I do throw my bra in the dryer despite brand recommendations not to).

But the greatest testament to how great this sports bra is? I’ve purchased one in 5 color options. While that might seem excessive, I should clarify that I don’t have a washing machine in my apartment and like to workout regularly—and I hate working out without my Paloma bra.

If you hadn’t already guessed, I’m truly obsessed with this bra. I find myself stalking the social channels for new collections despite owning the bra in light gray, ivory, dark green, and vibrant purple (i.e. Wildflower). I also gab about them excessively to my friends and coworkers, hoping to convert everyone into a Girlfriend Collective fan.

Of course, I’m not the only one completely addicted to the Paloma; it’s sold out on Girlfriend Collective’s website from sizes XXS to 6XL in every single colorway. The coveted pick is also unavailable, or only in super limited quantities, at Reformation and Bandier. Luckily, Nordstrom still has 3 spring-ready colorways in stock. But you’ll want to act fast because this popular style is flying off the shelves, and restocks can take months. I would know—I’ve been waiting for the latest drop, because why not add yet another one to my collection?
